IESL Celebrates, 113^th Anniversary

The 113th Annual Sessions of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) was ceremonially inaugurated on 14th October, at the Main Hall, BMICH in the presence of a large gathering of over a thousand participants.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Eng. Ranjith Gunatilleke, the Managing Director of Sanken Constructions Pvt Ltd was the keynote speaker. Foreign delegates from engineering institutions in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal also participated in the event.

The main highlight of the annual sessions is the official handing over of the mantel of the presidency to the incoming president by the outgoing president. This year Eng. (Prof) S B S Abayakoon was elected as the incoming president for the session 2019/2020.

It was also an occasion for presentation of awards and certificates to Honorary Life Members, those inducted as Fellows and International Professional Engineers, E.O.E. Pereira Award for the Best Paper presented at the Annual Sessions 2014, IESL Award for the best Paper by a Corporate Member published in the “Engineer” Journal during the Sessions 2018 / 2019 and the SD & CC Award for the best Paper by an Associate Member published in the “Engineer” Journal during the Sessions 2018 / 2019.
