REGIONAL EVALUATIONS OF THE JUNIOR INVENTOR OF THE YEAR

  Preliminary Evaluations of the Junior Inventor of the Year (JIY) 2008 Competition organized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, are scheduled to be held during the months of August and September. The JIY Competition which is being held for the 23rd successive year offers many attractive prizes including the opportunity to submit the winning inventions at the International Science & Engineering Fair in the United States. Prizes also include cash rewards, medals, certificates and internships at the University of Moratuwa.

The JIY 2008 drew a large number of applications from school children from almost all the Districts in the island seeking to submit their new inventions for the competition.

Preliminary evaluations will be held in four centers in order to ensure convenience of the competitors from the regions. The first such evaluation will be held on the 23 August 2008 at the Red Cross Society Hall in Kurunegala. Inventions of competitors from North Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces are to be evaluated during this session.

The 2nd session will be held on the 24th August at the University of Peradeniya for competitors of the Central and Eastern Provinces while inventions of competitors from North and North Central Provinces would be evaluated at the Vivekananda Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura on the 30th of August.

Two sessions of evaluation will be held on 7th and 13Th of September at the IESL Secretariat for the competitors who are living in close proximity to Colombo.

The competitors are requested to submit the exact invention they have stated in the application, at the preliminary evaluation, in the finished and final form.
The evaluations would be carried out by panels of qualified engineers who are experts in various disciplines of engineering.

Inventions that are short listed at the preliminary evaluations will go through the final evaluation that would be held in Colombo at the end of September to adjudge the winners.
